  • Beautiful Face

In expressing love we belong among the undeveloped countries.  (Saul Bellow)

Here is a poem that Zsa asked me to post:

    I WANT TO SAY

I want to say “You’re a beautiful person”.

I love your stylish do, and your entrancing eyes.

And your sculptured mouth and physique.

And the way you’ve created an image with your face.

But I’m afraid if I say it, all you will hear

Is that I love your enticing cleavage

    And your luscious short-skirted legs.

Which is why I won’t say it.

I want to say “You’re a beautiful person”.

Yes, I do love your sharp-witted mind,

And your stimulating thoughts on many issues,

And the games you play with your language.

But I’m afraid if I say it, all you will hear

Is that I want to play a game to get you in bed,

And that I’ll say anything to increase my odds.

Which is why I won’t say it.

I want to say “You’re a beautiful person”.

That I love your free sprightly spirit as it soars,

Your infectious laughter and devil-may-care attitude.

And the way you enjoy life, other people, and yourself.

But I’m afraid if I say it, all you will hear

Is that I want to have fun with you in the bedroom,

Or that I want to be the recipient of your pleasurings.

Which is why I won’t say it.

What I really want to say is “I want you to listen

To how and why I feel – and not just what I feel.”

But I don’t know how to say that,

    so I won’t say “You’re a beautiful person”.

    Even though you are.

enjoy your days off as i know you are……hugs!

  • I truly love this David. Beautiful poem. you should write more.

  • Outstanding.  Very much an echo of sentiments that I feel.  I often tell Barbara the truth — that I love her for her mind — and for other things as well, but I really dig her mind — and she conveys that she’d rather I love her for other qualities more than for her mind.  But mainly I just want the freedom to say what I mean and to be understood.

  • @ZSA_MD - Thanks Zsa.  I think I probably will write more now.  Thanks for the encouragement.

  • @MooncatBlue - Thanks Mooncat Blue.  I appreciate your comment.

  • @zisixi - Thanks zisixi.  I appreciate your comment.

  • @twoberry - Thanks.  It is very hard for some people to accept a compliment without taking it according to their own bias.

  • David, I love the music on your blog. Sounds so good. Feel like getting up and dancing or something!

  • @ZSA_MD - Thanks.  I went to First Night in Boston and heard several pieces of music that made me realize that I had not been listening to lately.  So I thought it was a good time to change the Playlist.  (Actually, my Playlist is set up and maintained by Lunaphia who asked me what I might like to include.)

  • I love it!! I wish women weren’t so damaged and we could be able to understand that now every compliment details sex. However I’m learning to overcome these awful beliefs. Thank you for sharing such a lovely and beautiful poem.
